Haha, oops

K, I realize I've kind of slacked off these last couple days... What can I say? I've been enjoying Parisian life to its (honor-code-ok) fullest. Today marks the 5th day in a row I've had things going on at night and have gotten home around 10 pm (my semi-unofficial curfew. my parents want me home before dark because I have to travel on foot and so that's the solid time I've set). Friday night, institute. Saturday night, picnic by the Eiffel Tower with the YA. Sunday night, went to the Sauers' for dinner and stayed til 9:30ish (half hour trip to home). Monday night, FHE. And tonight, saw Toy Story 3 in English 3D with the Sauers. P.S., the Sauers are Michael and Eric and their parents. I think I mentioned Michael and Eric once before; they're the twins I met at institute. Their family is a hoot. I don't even use that word, usually, I don't think, but in this case I find it appropriate.

Today, I got to experience this:

French (original) version:

That is, for those of you who don't want to waste ten minutes of your lives watching Asterix et Obelix, I spent practically my whole afternoon on a wild goose chase trying to get my French passport renewed. BLAUGH! So complicated. Let me just make this really simple for all of you in the future. To get your passport renewed in Paris if you live outside of Paris, you call this phone number: 01.44.61.44.44. But, you absolutely need a French birth certificate, even if you have an American one, because if you don't then there's a huge delay on it. So one week before you call that number, go to this website to order one for free: www.diplomatie.gouv.fr. And make sure you have at least 3 weeks left in France from the time you make the appointment using that phone number (you need the birth certificate too). You also need a few other things, but I had them. Anyway, I'm really hoping that that birth certificate gets here quick (it's sent through the mail) because if it doesn't then I'm going to be making some unwanted trips to San Francisco in the near future. I'll have to make some in any case to do my one-day required military thingamajig. I apparantly need to go to have myself be "recenser?" and then the military training. So today, my educational experiences were about being a big kid and getting my passport renewed without my parents doing it for me.

  1. How'bout some pictures of the Sauers? When Ian turned 16, he got a recensement paper from San Francisco with a convocation date. I called saying he could not make it. They said no problem, "c'est bon, y'a pas d'souci". Apparently, once you have the certificat de recensement, you're good to go. Bonne chance avec la bureaucratie!

  3. Haha, oops. I think that's in Czech (however you spell that). Or something. Oh well, just watch it in English or go find the French DVD.
